Lyndon B Johnson
The Vietnam War is a war that the US played a big role in. The Vietnam War occurred because France attempted to regain its hold over its colonies of Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam in Indochina. France had little difficulty establishing control in Laos and Cambodia. France was fighting strong resistance from the Communist party in the North part of Vietnam. In the early 1960s US were sending in troops to help battle the Communist party. Once one country fell to communism, all surrounding countries were in danger of falling as well. This belief was a huge reason for why I volunteered to the Vietnam War. I first assisted through economic aid and military advisors. In 1964 I started sending lots of American Troops to fight in South Vietnam. On February 1965, I planned to bomb a large area of North Vietnam. As of 1968 there were 500,000 US troops in Vietnam. The more I supported, the more the other countries helped South Vietnam. I was furious for many reasons with Lester B Pearson because he decided not to participate in the war, criticized my government, and me and also allowed American draft dodger immigrate to Canada. This angered me greatly, which affected my (USA) relationship with Canada.
